I was looking for a matte cream eye shadow the other day (can you believe how difficult it actually is to find just that without buying a palette!) and I couldn’t find one that I really liked. I wanted a powder shadow and not a cream one.

Anyway, I came across the W7 Cosmetics In The Buff Palette. It is a dupe for the Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette and here is my review!

At first glance, the colors are really similar. There are 12 colors in the W7 Palette just like the Naked 2 palette.

The first thing I noticed, was there is definitely more fall out from the W7 Palette and the color pigmentation is not as good. This is the color is not as strong when applied. A great tip to over come this and give the colors extra staying power and increase pigmentation is to use these colors in conjunction with MAC Fix + Spray. I love this setting spray and use it to keep my makeup in place but when used with eye shadow it also makes the color pop.

When the shadow is on your brush spray a little Fix + on the brush and shadow before applying to the eye and it will stick really well to your skin.

Also be careful with fall out as this can tend to be heavier than when using the Naked 2 Palette. Fix + will also help alleviate this but if you are not using the setting spray and you want a heavy smokey eye, then I recommend doing your eyes before your foundation, that way you can clean up any fall out and not ruin your foundation.

You can see above how truly similar the colors are. I will say the colors on the W7 palette are a lot cooler than the Naked 2 palette, in particular Earth, Storm and Silk. They have a grey under tone, rather than the bronze look that they appear in the palette. Buff and Chocolate are the only 2 true matte colors in the palette and are almost identical to Foxy and Tease in the Naked 2 palette. Onyx and Blackout are also identical.

Packaging is quite different. The tin palette from W7 is very flimsy compared to the UD palette and the names of the colors are not listed under the colors but on the back of the tin. Additionally, the colors on the W7 palette are in a foam casing as opposed to tin. The W7 also comes with a brush but I wouldn’t use this as it isn’t great quality whereas I would often use the brush from the Naked 2 palette.

The W7 palette was EUR 11.99 but reduced to EUR 5.99 which is obviously a massive difference from the EUR40 cost of the Urban Decay Naked 2 palette.

Final thought:

I think for the price of the W7 palette you can really get over the differences and have a great selection of colors. IN addition to this, MAC have a travel size Fix + spray (which will last you ages!!!) for just EUR10 so you can get all these colors and over come the fall out problem for just EUR15.99. Still a lot cheaper than the EUR40!
