Let’s be honest most of us don’t have the money we used to, to spend on whatever we like. Therefore when I came across an article by the author of Overdressed, I decided to share some tips on how to become a better and smarter shopper!
1. Be Strategic
We are all guilty of being impulsive but actually give yourself a yearly/monthly/quarterly budget and divide this between work, casual and going out clothes. You then have the option of blowing all your money on a designer piece but you can’t buy anything else until your next budget is granted!
2. Know That You’re Getting What You Pay For
If you are getting a dress for $20 don’t be surprised if it is not ini great shape after a few washes.
3. Re-Train Yourself to Spot ‘Value’
A lot of my generation don’t actually know what good value clothes is and couldn’t spot well-made clothes if we were paid! Clothes that are made in smaller numbers with good materials where the labor is fairly paid, it’s not going to be cheap. But it’s going to be worth it.
4. Learn to sew
This is a great tip- you would be so surprised how mush you can do to a garment if you can sew! You can customise your own clothes and re work pieces you are bored of.
5. Find a tailor or seamstress
If you don’t want to or don’t have the time to learn how to sew, find a good seamstress. They can take in clothes, take them up and literally you can often be left with a garment that looks completely different.
6. Buy local designers
They can often be a lot cheaper than large fashion houses, yet you still get the same amazing quality and the piece will be unique. On top if this you are supporting your local economy!
7. Buy Vintage
Vintage and Thrift shops are popping up everywhere and you can often find amazing little pieces so make sure to have a rummage the next time you see one!
